              Diwali(Festival Of Lights)

Diwali/Deepavali the meaning of Deep is "light" and vali is "row".
The "row of lights" which is represented by lighting lamps everywhere during 'Diwali'.

Why I celebrate Diwali?

People Celebrating Diwali Together

There is lot of History for this Occasion but Diwali is festival of Light, it is festival of Sharing Love & sweets. Diwali is festival of Entertainment. Diwali is festival of Celebration. Indians Get 5 - 15 Days holiday so this is great time to be together. Not Everyone is celebrating Diwali because of Communal Fights. But this festival is for every one because this is the festival of love and sharing.

What I do in Diwali?

  • Buying Clothes, Utensils, Ornaments etc. Everybody watches each other clothes and appretiate them for their clothes.
  • House Cleaning is most basic thing, which is done due to Hindus believe, which is,"Goddess Lakshmi will enter our home and We will get a lot of money and blessings" because "Lakshmi" is what considered as "money".
  • 70%+ Females and some Males draw rangoli in the occasion of Diwali, it looks beautiful outside home and everybody comes and watches it and also appretiate the makers.
  • In the evening, everyone light lamps , diyas , candles and light the whole. Homes are fully lightended with different lights. It looks awesome. The Lamps symbolize knowledge or one's inner light, which brings about inner peace and fights off any traces of darkness and ignorance.
  • Lighting Crackers is most fun part of Diwali, when I asks to children of Diwali they only know lighting crackers because that's what everyone enjoy. It means warding off evil from surroundings, but only mosquitoes affect from them and we get a mosquito free atmosphere for some day. But there is large amount of sound pollution and air pollution in just few hours and it badly affects kidney and lungs. Many people die in this day due to less precautions in burning crackers. Even I was also injured many times.

  • One More thing is important in this day which is eating sweets and snacks. Sweets and Snacks taste awesome and because everyone share it, I love eating with family and friends.
  • Games are played in Diwali day in High class societies, actually middle class families is busy in doing their household work.. Those are: Rummy, Pass the Parcel, Hide and Seek, Scavenger hunt, Musical Chairs, Charades etc.

Diwali harms many people in India, Therefore I am giving you 10 ways to Celebrate Green Diwali:

  • Do not use electric lights. Instead use only diyas and candles. I will strongly recommend you to buy those diyas and candles from poors because they do very hard work to make it. They also deserves to celebrate Diwali.
  • Give Fireworks a complete miss, I am not brining fireworks this Diwali, may be I will not bring never again. Arabs ruppee of India is getting wasted in destroying environment. Burning Crackers is temperory. They give enjoyment for moment, but cost many ruppees. Instead buy some food and drinks and give to homeless beggers. That's worth your money. Even this time I am going to collect all the dirt of colony and will burn it like bonfire and everybody will enjoy it with slow music.
  • Don't use artificial colors for rangoli, instead you can use..
rice powder for white colour, pulses or turmeric for yellow colour,
cloves or cinnamon for brown colour, cardamon or saunf for green colour,
dried chilly for red colour.. It will be feeded by birds,
Though it was done earlier times, but this time try it.
  • For Some Diwali Feeling, Hang a bell at your door. Don't use the Electric Bell.
  • Make Sweets at Home.
  • Don't buy expensive crockery be eco-friendly. Use banana leaves and small earthen glasses to serve the guests.
  • Organize Competitions : Rangoli competition, Flower arrangement competition, Sweet-making competition, Paper lantern competition for kids, or Even you can organize music programs, puppet-shows, talent shows and other cultural events.
  • Don't but any wrapping paper for gifts, instead use newpaper and paint them or Even you can use clothes to wrap your gift.
  • Emotional Point- Instead of spending hours bursting crackers or drinking and partying, spend some time with underprivileged children.
Donate your old clothes which should be thrown out in Cleaning home.
Share Smiles with Oldies, they are most lone peoples.
Share stories with lonely peoples talk to them.
